The Carol to Laurinda shared active transport corridor demonstrates Fred St’s ability to design fluid and functional spaces that enhance community access. The site is an extended parkland that joins Carol Avenue with Laurinda Crescent, involving the upgrade of existing parkland, along with design of anadjacent resumed block to create the corridor. This project received the AILA Queensland 2022 Small Projects Award of Excellence.

The George Clayton Park playground upgrade's unique location enabled extensive nautical theming, manifesting in everything from the large play units to smaller sculptural inclusions. The site produced some design challenges, with existing elements requiring integration, as well as extensive tree protection zones that needed to be worked within.

As part of the larger Colmslie Beach Reserve park project, Rickety Bridge was undertaken by FRED St in conjunction with TLCC. The play feature required in-depth technical knowledge and application of the Australian Standards to mitigate entrapment, whilst simultaneously creating an engaging and realistic looking rickety bridge.

The Blatchford Reserve landscape project introduces a fun and engaging scooter track designed for active play and exploration. Featuring a mix of textured riding surfaces, weaving poles, and playful linemarkings, the track encourages movement, coordination, and creativity. Robust native planting frames the space, adding softness, colour, and a natural feel to the dynamic setting.

This design utilised existing vegetation to form the base of a nature playground focusing on exploration and adventure. Sandy swales and dry creek beds provide further connection to natural elements, while simultaneously managing overland flow paths and creating excitement during rainfall.

FRED St worked with Toowoomba Regional Council on the delivery of the detailed design for the Oakey Creek Corridor. Taking the direction from a previously commissioned masterplan, Fred St developed the design to provide the means to establish this series of parklands as a linked District Level recreational asset. This project received the AILA Queensland 2018 Regional Achievement Award.

FRED St designed and documented the landscape for the Les Hughes Precinct Upgrade. The upgrade included a new joint baseball/rugby clubhouse, new rugby fields, and car parking. Our scope included the sport field design, baseball practice compound design and layout as wewll as the field sub-surface drainage design. The ancillary elements that were also developed from concept design were the seating, path connections and amenity landscape.

Smith Collective Park was delivered in concept design and detailed design stages as part of upgrades to the public facilities at Commonwealth Games Village. Centrally located within a residential precinct, the aim was to provide the community with an all ages and abilities recreational space. In this constricted site, the selection of play equipment optimised space and supported ease of access through the space. Landform was strategically used to generate the most play potential within tight spaces.

FRED St was engaged to develop the Nolan Park BMX Precinct Concept through detailed design and into Construction Documentation. The site stands as one of the nations leading BMX locations, contributing to and facilitating the rise in popularity of the sport. The site also contributes to the regions environmental sustainability with an all-native planting palette and strong WSUD principles integrated throughout.

FRED St designed and documented the baseball grounds for James Drysdale Reserve. This included the sport field design, dugout design and layout and the field subsurface drainage design. The ancillary elements to the reserve that were also developed from concept design were the playground, exercise nodes and amenity landscape.
