(whilst employed at RPS) Airport Link’s green wall and purple curtain wall have become landmarks in Brisbane’s road network. The curtain wall’s design demonstrates a gateway that is responsive to the engineering adjacent to it and the importance of scale. Dual use is key to our philosophy. Tessa Leggo delivered the curtain wall, developed as a JV with Taylor Cullity Leathlean (TCL). Tessa also integrated the curtain wall’s aesthetic into the public park that was completed as a part of the works. The scope of works for Southern Connection was extensive and included the design of signature portal entries, noise walls and ventilation facilities, along with the creation of new land bridges for park space and the integration of existing and new public realm into the design. High levels of coordination between urban design and the engineering teams are the hallmarks of this project.

(whilst employed at RPS) Cairns Bruce Highway Upgrade required a noise barrier and the created highpoint of the overpass guided the ‘Wave’. We delivered a linear gateway feature that addressed noise mitigation concerns, highlighted views to Cairns city foreshore, addressed time/effect difficulties for public art in a driving context and provided an entrance feature that can be viewed from all possible angles with no loss of effect. The ability to understand and articulate the needs of urban design in this setting is invaluable for infrastructure urban design. Tessa also designed the urban design treatments to the pedestrian overpass bridge, having to accommodate several governing bodies safety standards and aesthetic desires.

Working within the framework of Brisbane City Council standard guidelines, FRED St delivered a design outcome that improved the local streetscape function whilst maintaining a cohesive neighbourhood aesthetic. Robust, native species were specified to the verges with protection given to the new and existing street trees. The path the landscape improvements are found upon allow for greater amenity and function, enabling a more active lifestyle.

To mark the Centenary of ANZAC in 2015, 100 street trees have been proposed, to be placed between the North’s Leagues Club at Petrie and the East end of Kallangur Central. Design constraints considered for the roadway project included road alignment, services (namely electricity), pedestrian facility, remaining heritage trees, safety standards and sight lines. A visual document was created exploring these constraints and containing extensive research, resulting in a detailed conceptual masterplan of the proposed tree locations

As part of Queensland Rails Station Accessibility Program, FRED St delivered the detail documentation for Landscape Works for the Newmarket and Alderley train stations. An efficient design that upgrades the aesthetic and improves the intuitive wayfinding that fits within the project budget.

Leggo whilst employed by RPS) A hugely successful bid that placed major importance on the urban design outcome, with participation in value engineering and optioneering workshops within the bid phase to ensure the best design outcome was presented. The Transcity Consortium was awarded the $1.5 billion tender to design, construct, manage and operate Legacy Way (previously known as Northern Link) – a 4.3km long underground toll road which will join Toowong and Bowen Hills in Brisbane. Scope of works include the design of tunnel portals, ventilation facilities, noise barriers and the toll road control centres, as well as all soft landscape works and the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens expansion masterplan, with increased open space and recreational opportunities. The design includes the provision of a ‘moving wall’ portal entry feature that creates a dynamic entry and exit experience to the tunnels and links to the artwork on the ventilation building façade.
